The earliest section of the residence may be traced back to the year 1631. A century later, Edward Worsley, the offspring of Sir Edward Worsley from Gatcombe House, undertook extensive renovations to the residence. The property was also used by J.B. Priestley in the 1930’s.
Billinham is widely recognised as one of the historical treasures of the island, as indicated by its inclusion in the list of Grade II* listed buildings since 1951.
The property in question served as the residence of the Worsley family and was previously in the ownership of a Mrs. Lawrence. The remains of Olivia Manning, a prominent British author, poet, writer, and reviewer, were subjected to cremation and then interred at the estate.
