Ref Number: 0070
Even though it has been greatly enlarged, the station house can still be found in its original location; however, it has been extended such that it now reaches past the end of the platform. A third party now makes use of it as their own. Even though the station buildings have been demolished, the platform itself may still be found at the location.
When it was opened, the station was given the name Blackwater; however, on July 9, 1923, it was renamed Blackwater (island of Wight) so that it would not be mistaken with Blackwater in Hampshire. This was done to prevent confusion with Blackwater in Hampshire. The original building of the platform made of wood was performed by the Southern Railway; however, this platform was subsequently rebuilt and its length was increased.
The ticket office was located within the station building, and it faced the level crossing. This was the location of the station’s rear entrance. A tiny goods yard could be located on the side of the track that was not traversed by the level crossing at any point in time.
