This plate was published in W Cooke’s “A new picture of the Isle of Wight” in 1808 and depicts Carisbrooke Castle Gate. In addition to the original sketches, the volume A New Picture of the Isle of Wight is illustrated with thirty-six plates of the most stunning and fascinating vistas throughout the island. All of the images in the 1808 edition are hand-drawn, and this early guide quickly became a preference among island visitors.
