The John Priestman and Co. shipyard in Southwick Sunderland created the single-screw steamer SS Coquetdale (1597 tonnes). It sank in 1940 after being attacked by German Stuka planes and is presently located 15 nautical miles (nm) west of St. Catherine’s Point.
