The Royal Navy’s first S-class submarine, HMS Swordfish (61S), was constructed in the 1930s. After being commissioned in 1932, she joined the 2nd Submarine Flotilla with the pennant number 61S.aligned with the 2nd Submarine Flotilla.
The vessel disappeared after entering the Channel. She was supposedly sunk by a German destroyer while on patrol, although this has never been proven. South of St. Catherine’s Point, however, a local island diver named Martin Woodward made the discovery in 1983.
