Mottistone Manor is a house owned by the National Trust, situated in the village of Mottistone on the Isle of Wight, England. The location boasts well-liked gardens and possesses the status of being a listed structure. The initial mention of the subject matter may be traced back to the records associated with the Domesday Book of 1086.
The most ancient sections of the manor, specifically the south-east wing, may be traced back to the fifteenth or early sixteenth century. In 1567, Thomas Cheke undertook the building or renovation of the north-west wing, while further enhancements to the south-east wing were implemented during the early seventeenth century. The architectural company Seely & Paget undertook a comprehensive renovation of the entire house during the 1920s. Notably, John Seely, Lord Mottistone (1899–1963), a descendant of Charles Seely (1803–1887) who acquired the property in 1861, had a significant role in this endeavour.
Despite its lack of accessibility to the general public, the mansion has served as a venue for social gatherings organised by the Seely family. On 14 February 2015, Sophie Hunter, a renowned theatre and opera director, and Benedict Cumberbatch had their wedding reception at this location. Sophie Hunter is the great-great granddaughter of General J. E. B. Seely, 1st Baron Mottistone.
