He dedicated around two decades of his life in Japan conducting extensive research in the field of seismology, a discipline that he played a pivotal role in shaping into its contemporary framework. Milne was born in Liverpool in the year 1850 and then relocated to Shide Hill House in 1895 upon retirement from Japan. The individual constructed an observatory at that location, attracting several tourists and students to his residence. Milne passed away in the year 1913 and was laid to rest at St. Paul’s, Barton.

An exhibition of his life and work at Carisbrooke Castle Museum in 2013 was unveiled by the Japanese ambassador.
