According to the 1866 map of Hampshire and Isle of Wight, the shown structure was a water-powered mill that utilised a small mill pond supplied by water flowing from St Boniface Down. Based on historical sources, it is documented that the original old mill had a devastating fire in 1848. However, it was subsequently reconstructed and resumed its activities, persisting for an extended period of time.
